Surat: Nishita Purohit from the city has made records by securing the first rank in MBBS entrance exam conducted by the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) with a 100 per cent result. Not only in Surat, Purohit is also the first from the state to achieve this feat.
Always an MBBS aspirant, Purohit had strategically planned her preparations. She devoted 12 hours to her studies, 6 at the coaching centre and 6 hours of self-studies. She aspires to become a cardiac surgeon.
The results of the entrance examination were announced on Thursday and the results are now available on the official website — aiimsexams.org — and also on the websites of other six AIIMS.
Her father Nirmal Indu, president of a private firm in Odisha, is an IIT alumnus and her mother Himanshu is a pharmacy graduate and a homemaker. Her brother Anshul, is also an IIT-Bombay alumnus, working in the United States. She calls all of them her source of inspiration.
The exam was concluded in May 28, 2017. Of the 2,84,737 candidates who had appeared for the exam, 4,905 candidates have qualified for the counselling sessions at AIIMS.
