Indian bowlers raze Sri Lanka for 205

Ravichandran Ashwin took four wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Ishant Sharma took three each.

India bowled out Sri Lanka for 205 on Friday the first day of the second Test at Nagpur. Chasing the visitors’ modest first innings score, India lost opener Lokesh Raul while closing the day at 11.

For the sixth consecutive Test between these two teams, Sri Lanka failed to reach 300 after deciding to bat first. Spinners Ravi Ashwin (4 wickets) and Ravindra Jadeja (3) and paceman Ishant Sharma, who replaced Bhuvaneshwar Kumar on leave of absence for his wedding, also took three wickets.

India replaced fast bowler Mohammed Shami with Rohit Sharma to give him practice ahead of the tour to South Africa where a

stronger opponent awaits Virat Kohli’s men.

Sri Lankan batsmen’s poor run continued today, barring a couple of flashes of brilliance by Dinesh Chandimal and Karunaratne.

The first Test ended in a draw at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.

Scores: India 11 for 1 trail Sri Lanka 205 (Chandimal 57, Karunaratne 51, Ashwin 4-67, Ishant 3-37, Jadeja 3-56) by 194 runs.
