New Delhi: Anil Kumble on Tuesday stepped down as the Indian Cricket team coach. He had earlier decided to not accompany the Indian team to the West Indies for the upcoming series from June 23. Kumble is a part of ICC’s Cricket committee and has submitted his resignation to BCCI CEO.
Speculations were rife about a fall out between Kumble and Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
The two also had minimal communication during the recently concluded ICC Champions Trophy tournament and practice matches.
From June 23 India is scheduled to play five one-day internationals in the Caribbean, with a Twenty20 international wrapping up the trip on July 9.
The Indian team is now without a head coach and former Indian cricketers Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman have been tasked with selecting the next coach.
However, the rumours of a spat between the Indian skipper and former coach were rubbished by COA chief Vinod Rai.
